Why Satan Rejoices When You Hate Your Body

A SPIRIT OF DIS-CONTENTMENT CANNOT COINCIDE WITH GRATITUDE AND PRAISE FOR GOD

God designed us to be thankful for all He has given to us and all He has done for us.  Even if we have severe health problems, there is still much to be thankful for about our bodies.  Each day of life is a gift.  God gave you the EXACT body He knew was with Him.  God is sovereign.  He has reasons for giving me the body I have.  My job is to be thankful, to appreciate the gift, to use it wisely, to care for it well and not to squander the preciousness of the gift.

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place… Your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.  How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God!  How vast is the sum of them!  Psalm 139:13-17

HATRED OF YOUR BODY OPENS THE DOOR TO SEVERAL FORMS OF IDOLATRY AND ADDICTIONS.

Anorexia, bulimia, bingeing, purging, obsession with food, obsession with body size, obsession with weight and calories, addiction to diet pills, addiction to exercise, addiction to portion control or hiding bingeing and purging can completely destroy a person’s life.  Addiction IS idolatry.  It is out of control.  The person is no longer in control of their own actions and behavior, the addiction is in control of them.  And the addict is a slave.

These addictions and forms of idolatry are particularly brutal because it’s very difficult to escape the fact that we all need to eat multiple times per day.  Issues with food and weight aren’t things that a girl can avoid.  If you do have an eating disorder, please find help!  Talk to your doctor, your school counselor, your pastor, or look online for Christian resources for eating disorders immediately.  As a pharmacist, I have seen people with these issues and if you are not treated, this stuff can kill you because it messes up your electrolytes, heart rhythm, and every part of your body.

God desires you to be free from all addictions and to serve and worship only Himself!  He can help you overcome these addictions and have abundant life in Christ!  But HE has to be more important to you than your addiction and eating disorder.  You will need help to find your way through this.  DO NOT try to treat anorexia or bulimia on your own!

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL, YOU WON’T BELIEVE GUYS WOULD THINK YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND YOU’LL SETTLE FOR GUYS WHO AREN’T GOD’S BEST FOR YOU.

Many, many girls look in the mirror and see flaws instead of beauty.  So when any guy shows interest, they think, “I better not let him get away.  What if no one else notices me or wants me?”

What a SAD way to look at life!!!!  Precious girl, God made you beautiful.  You ARE beautiful!  There are guys who will treat you well, guys who love Jesus, who will appreciate, honor, respect and highly esteem your physical and spiritual beauty.  You are probably MUCH harder on yourself than most any guy would be. Guys like variety.  So you don’t have to starve yourself or torture yourself to try to look like a fake supermodel.  Most guys don’t like fake, anyway!

Be comfortable in your skin.  Take good care of yourself.  Make some effort to look beautiful, but don’t go crazy!  If you are spending more than  60 minutes/day on beauty regimens, I would say it may be time to check your heart and motivation.  Is beauty an idol?  Spend some time on looking beautiful, but spend at least as much time on your spirit and soul with God!  He knows how to bring about REAL, ETERNAL beauty in you that will never fade!  The beauty of a gentle, peaceful spirit that does not give way to fear and is of great worth in God’s sight! I Peter 3

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL, IT MAY SEEM UNNECESSARY TO DRESS MODESTLY SINCE YOU DON’T THINK YOU ARE A TEMPTATION TO ANYONE.

Please hear me, girls!  YOU ARE a temptation if you dress immodestly outside of marriage no matter what your size or your feelings are about your body.  Like I mentioned above, guys like variety.  Your body can and will be a temptation for some men regardless of your size, shape or age.  So protect your body.  Cherish your sexuality.  Cover your body and be aware that visual sexual temptation is a huge struggle for many men.  Let’s help our brothers in Christ by respecting their weaknesses and respecting our bodies, and respecting Christ in the way we dress and act.

CONCENTRATING ON WHAT YOU HATE ABOUT YOUR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE KEEPS YOU FROM WORKING ON AND BEING CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR SPIRITUAL BEAUTY.

Focusing on the negatives about yourself promotes ugly attitudes!  A woman can be extremely beautiful on the outside, but if she has ugly attitudes, the ugly spirit in her will negate the external beauty!

Conversely, if a woman has average looks externally, but is all aglow with the joy, love and peace of Jesus – she will radiate with beauty that everyone can see and appreciate!

Concentrate on gratitude for all the good things God gave you.  Concentrate on being a good steward of all the abilities, relationships, time and blessings God gave you today.  Praise God continually in your heart and on your lips.  THEN you will be a powerful force in God’s kingdom, full of God’s Spirit and useful to Him instead of paralyzed by discontent.

FEELING INADEQUATE, UNWORTHY OF LOVE, UGLY AND UNLOVABLE WILL KEEP YOU FROM FINDING THE LOVE, ACCEPTANCE, AND CONFIDENCE YOU WANT – AND SATAN LIKES THAT.

Confidence in yourself speaks volumes to guys.  Standing tall, being in good physical shape, not slouching, having beautiful posture – these things are graceful, attractive, beautiful parts of femininity that enhance our looks greatly.

When we feel beautiful and confident in all that God has done for us and given us, when we KNOW how truly loved and treasured we are by Christ, we are able to be open to love from our husbands, too!

Ultimately, we must find our acceptance, love, identity, well-being, contentment, joy and peace in Christ.  If we try to find it in the acceptance of others, we will be continually disappointed.  But when we are confident in our position in Christ, we are also open to the gifts He has to give us in other relationships, and we are much better able to receive His blessings with gratitude when we are looking for the good instead of focusing on the negative things.

IF YOU CAN FOCUS YOUR ENERGY ON YOUR APPEARANCE, YOU CAN MISS ALL THAT GOD HAS IN STORE FOR YOUR LIFE AND BE SPIRITUALLY PARALYZED AND FAIRLY USELESS IN GOD’S KINGDOM.

Let God lift up your head.  Keep your eyes on Him!  That is where your power, joy, peace and help are!  Look into His wonderful face!  See all that He is and all He is doing.  Seek to really know Him.  Get your focus off of yourself.  Be free to focus on Christ and be empowered to do all that He desires to do through You by His power!

LACK OF GRATITUDE  IS CONTAGIOUS.  ADDICTIONS ARE CONTAGIOUS.  SATAN HAS BIG PLANS FOR YOU TO HELP DESTROY OTHER PEOPLE BY SHARING YOUR IDOLATRY, ADDICTION, SELF-LOATHING AND PARALYZING SPIRITUAL CONDITION.

It’s very easy for younger sisters, daughters, friends to join another woman in her self-loathing and desire for a more perfect, younger body and more perfect beauty.  Other women are watching us closely and will imitate our example!  I pray that we might exhibit a godly example of a healthy body image, savoring the gift of the body we have, cherishing the good points, relishing the unique beauty that is ours, and that we might spur other women on toward accepting their bodies as gifts from God to be enjoyed, too!
